Winter Gardening By Deirdre Prince

[dropcap style=”square”]G[/dropcap] ardening in winter months can be considered a bit drab. There is not much pomp and ceremony with the planting in the garden during this time of the year. Maybe it’s the cold weather or the prospect of a rain or snow shower that deters us from tackling the garden, but it is a missed opportunity to take stock in it.

Winter can be the season that allows a breathing space to assess the garden after the busy growing seasons. There are always jobs to be carried out in the garden but at least in the winter months, there is less urgency. Planting can be examined to see if there is any pruning or training to be done. Pruning involves removing parts of a plant in order to maintain health and to train to a particular shape or size.
