Seattle

[dropcap style=”square”]A[/dropcap]s the home of Microsoft, Amazon and Starbucks, Seattle is a cutting edge city that fizzes with energy and is always on the lookout for the next big thing.

Things to see and do

The image at the forefront of most people’s minds when they think of Seattle is the iconic Space Needle, and the first stop on any visitors agenda. Built in 1962 and rising to 184 metres, the observation deck is a great place to take in the city sights and views of Mount Rainier, the Cascade Mountains, Elliott Bay and beyond.

Within the wider complex of the Seattle Centre surrounding the Space Needle are a number of attractions built for the 1962 World’s Fair, most notably the Museum of Pop Culture. The museum building itself is worth a look, as it was designed by world famous architect Frank Gehry. Inside, the museum takes visitors through the history of popular culture from rock and roll and cinema to gaming and science fiction.

One other attraction at the Seattle Centre is the Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit showcasing the work of renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly.
