Picture Perfect

Photographer Evelyn McNamara’s innovative hut blends creative ideas with auction finds and pieces picked up from her travels, resulting in a unique and imaginative home.

[dropcap style=”square”]N[/dropcap]ow home to wedding and portrait photographer, Evelyn McNamara, this corrugated half cylindrical steel structure was built in 1948. Located in Rathmoylan Cove on Evelyn’s family land, it was designed by engineer Peter Norman Nissen and intended for military use. As a child Evelyn always had ideas of renovating it. ‘Over the years I have gathered many ideas from Remodelista and Pinterest and I have travelled a huge amount, gathering inspiration and pieces that I knew would suit the structure. When I started work on the hut, it was painted top-to-toe in yellow, it was very damp, full of sand hoppers, with plants growing up through the floor. It had a small window looking towards the beach, I always wanted to take down the interior walls and put in large oversized French doors to maximise the wonderful beach views,’ explains Evelyn.
