Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival

Halloween has its roots in the old Celtic festival of Samhain, originating in the Boyne Valley over 3,000 years ago. The Celts celebrated the end of the old year and saw this period as a time when the veil between their world and the next came down and the spirits of all those that died that year moved on to the next life. One of the main spiritual sites was the Hill of Ward east of Athboy, County Meath, and it is here that the old traditions have been revived for the 21st century with a torch lit procession from Fair Green in Athboy to the Hill of Ward. This is one of a number of events taking place throughout the Boyne Valley from 13th October to 6th November.

Seafield House, Sligo

One of the most interesting houses for fans of the paranormal is Seafield House in Sligo built in 1842 for William Phibbs.
