Love is in the air!

[dropcap style=”square”]I[/dropcap]t’s that time of year when couples are thinking about a romantic getaway in time for Valentine’s Day. Here we bring you some fantastically romantic destinations outside of the usual clichés, from relaxing beach holidays to short city breaks.

Lake Bled, Slovenia

Situated in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia is the perfect romantic backdrop for a couples retreat, after all, Slovania is the only country with Love in the name! That aside, the area of Bled is truly stunning and offers postcard worthy views. The bluish-green lake has a small island in the middle which houses a church and is overlooked by a medieval castle clinging to a rocky cliff. Take advantage of the trails around the lake where you can walk at your leisure or take a romantic bike ride. Be sure to stop off at some of the resting points to take in the amazing views. You can visit the island by boarding a Pletna boat, which is a flat bottomed, wooden boat that is paddled across the lake by a single person. If you are more on the adventurous side, you can rent a row boat or kayak to row yourself over! A visit to Bled castle is a must, and once there you will be surprised by the amount there is to do there. You can enjoy a romantic meal overlooking the lake or enjoy some wine tasting in the wine cellar.
