A Grand Design
[dropcap style=”square”]Y[/dropcap]ou may recognise award winning architect Patrick Bradley’s Maghera home from the popular Channel 4 television series ‘Grand Designs’, which often features unusual and elaborate architectural homebuilding projects. There are not many homes in Ireland that are as unusual and elaborate as this considering it is made from four shipping containers!
‘I originally came up with the design for this home and let it sit for a few years,’ recalls Patrick. ‘I remember I sat down one night at around 7pm to begin designing it and it was finished just before 4am that morning. I quickly realised that once I did the costing, my budget wouldn’t stretch so instead of redesigning the entire thing, I suddenly realised that I could use shipping containers instead.
